The flowers are late this year. Last year they were too early and every cherry, apple, plum and walnut flower, that was so spectacular in the warm spring, was destroyed by a horribly cruel late freeze. This year everything is waiting and my wily neighbours are pleased, hoping that the late flowers will be able to set fruit this year.
The frogs think it is spring though and this plump ball of spawn just appeared in the wet meadow. The French put up little fences to guide frogs and toads away from roads. When I first saw the signs for Batracians, I thought there were a lot of camels on the loose in country lanes, but soon realised the signs are there to warn motorists of amorous amphibians crossing to plashy places to lay their eggs.

I love seeing all the signs of spring. And I am glad the French put up little signs. There are groups in the Uk that do frog and toad patrols, to help them safely cross roads at night. 🙂 xxx

I’ve picked up a few toads in buckets in past lives, and I mean that literally not metaphorically!
